| Layers of the Past
The many layers represented in this watercolor painting put one
in mind of the layers of sedimentary rock often studied by geologists
in their quest for a link to the past. Much of it can be seen in
the formations in the Grand Canyon and in Sedona, Arizona.
This piece measures 9" X 12" and is painted on Arches 140 Lb.
cold press paper with Yarka watercolors. The frame is not
included and
has been added for display purposes only. The colors are a very
close
approximation to those on the original painting and may vary slightly
from
the original, depending on how you have your monitor adjusted. |

River of Tears We have
only just begun the invasion of Iraq and it has become a great presence
in our homes and in our minds. This 10" X 14" watercolor on
140 lb. cold press Kilimanjaro paper is
an expression of the sorrow we all feel about this sad turn of events,
both
for the people of Iraq and our own men and women, who will give their
lives
in the name of this war. We all pray for their safe return and
hope
that these "tears" in the Tigris will dry up soon. |
| Remembering Mondrian Mondrian
is an artist I began to study in my very first art class in
college. I remember being intrigued by
the seeming simplicity of the artistic statements he made and the stark
beauty
of his designs. In my mini tribute, I have rounded my corners and
used
secondary colors, but other than that, felt a srong association with
the
inspiration for this work while painting it. The piece is a 10" X
14"
watercolor and acrylic on Kilimanjaro 140 lb. cold press paper.
The
colors are a very close approximation to the original, however, the
golds
are not as "mustardy" as they appear here. |

April in Baghdad This 9"
X 12" watercolor on Arches 140lb. cold press paper was inspired byt the
current conflict in the Middle East between the United States, Great
Britain, and Iraq. Everyday now, the TV is filled with
images of the war and the toll both in human terms and
property have made their way into our everyday lives. This painting
came
from inside of me and is my statement about a sad time in our
history. It is my very personal vision and even though some might
consider it stark and disturbing, it was something I needed to express. |

| Rush Hour This 9" X 12"
painting is done in both watercolor and acrylic on Arches 140 Lb. cold
press paper. It depicts rush hour on a day when the snow is
beginning to fall. Someone in one of the cars
in front is patriotically waving an American flag and the checkered cab
seems
to be making little progress towards it's destination. Hopefully,
the
passengers aren't trying to catch a flight. After having recently
dedicated
time to my feelings about the war, it is uplifting and refreshing
to
paint a very American scene, albeit one of "gridlock", in the
greatest
city in the world.....the city of my birth, New York City . |

I'll Start
My
Diet Tomorrow This painting
was created as an entry for the April ISmudge "Things We
Eat" theme contest.
The painting is a watercolor with a few touches of acrylic and
black
ink and is 10" X 14" on Kilimanjaro cold press paper.
The colors are basically
true
to life, except for the blue which actually is more ultramarine than
the
camera has read it. This "All-American burger" has been embellished
with
some of the usual ingredients and a few unusual ones as well. I
thought
that if I ever indulged myself in that way, I would definitely need to
start
my diet tomorrow.
