Anxiety The woman looking through the window has been waiting for a long time and was expecting that the phone would ring at any moment.  This framed stretched canvas is rendered in acrylic and is one of my pop art pieces.  I seem to have an affinity for the style as I was totally enraptured by comic books in my youth.  Even now, I find myself drawn to them.  One April in Chicago, I was privileged to attend an exhibit of  Roy Lichtenstein's art and although I never met him, he has had a powerful influence on my work.

Invasion   Not too many days after the destruction of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 when anthrax became a great concern in the country, I painted this pop art acrylic on canvas board.  I never really thought about it at the time, but I believe that subconsciously I was addressing that issue.  I changed my mind many times about the colors, but finally settled on this rendition.  This painting can be oriented horizontally as well.

Spirit of Life II  The abstract painting of this tradtional theme of "mother and child" or "madonna and child" came to me one night as I was sketching figures on the back of an envelope at the kitchen table.  It felt so right to me that I had to transfer it onto canvas.  My original conception was to do this in a different combination of colors, however, when I told my eldest daughter about it, she suggested that I try these.  I liked her suggestion and have not yet finished my original version of the painting.  This piece is part of the private collection of Barth McNeil of Connecticut.

Dry Heat   This landscape painting is based on a small clay sculpture named "The Gecko and the Saguaro" (which can be viewed in the clayworks section of this site).  The giant saguaros in Arizona dominate the landscape in some places as does the heat, which everyone assures you is tolerable because it is so "dry".  The scene and the very hot sun put me in mind of one day in the summer in Tempe when my husband and I went shopping and actually paid money just for a spot in the shade in which to park the car.  This piece is acrylic on stretched canvas and is part of the private collection of Aimeé McNeil of California.

Mona Pizza   The group of artists that I belong to sponsors a theme contest every month and the theme for one of the months was the Mona Lisa.  I thought and thought about it and decided to have a little fun with it.  This pop art acrylic painting on stretched canvas tries to address Mona's curious look and her innermost thoughts.

Because Leonardo was Italian and so was she, I thought that pizza would be the fun food of choice.  I contemplated sending this to Pizza Hut as an ad, but found that they don't accept unsolicited advertising.  We do, however, have a Mona Lisa Ristorante in the next town over and perhaps if the caption were different.............hm-mm?

End of Time   This abstract painting is a mixed media painting on watercolor paper.  A combination of wet-on-wet watercolor and felt tip marker were used as a technique. The colors were specifially selected for impact and dramatic effect.  The piece has an "armageddon" feel to it, hence the title.  This painting has been matted and framed under glass and is part of the personal collection of Marcie C. Ventre of Tempe, AZ.

Phoenix Sunset  The giant saquaros and the desert are once again the theme of my landscape.  The sun is setting very slowly in this piece and so the saguaros are depicted in silhouette. This semi-abstract mixed media painting is on watercolor paper and was rendered in watercolors and felt tip markers.  I employed the same palette for the background as the painting above.
